Cookie policy
Last updated: June 5, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how UN Careers uses cookies and similar technologies. It forms part of, and should be read with, our Privacy Policy.
What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies include local storage and pixels, which can store or read information on your device. They let a site remember your actions and preferences, measure how it is used, and, for advertising, recognise a browser across sites.
Our approach and your consent
We aim to use as few cookies as possible. Strictly necessary technologies are always active because the site cannot work securely without them. All other categories are non-essential. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, non-essential cookies (including analytics and personalized advertising) are set only after you give consent through our cookie notice and Google's certified consent message. You can change or withdraw consent at any time, see "How to control cookies" below.
Where we rely on consent, our consent tool records your choice in your browser so we can apply it and avoid asking again unnecessarily. Clearing your browser storage resets that record and the notice will appear again.
Categories we use
- Strictly necessary. Set by our hosting and content-delivery providers for security, load balancing and basic delivery of the site. These do not identify you personally and cannot be switched off through the site.
- Preferences.A small flag stored in your browser's local storage so we do not show the cookie notice on every visit.
- Analytics. Where enabled, help us understand aggregate, non-identifying usage so we can improve the Service.
- Advertising. Where enabled, set by Google AdSense and its partners to serve ads, limit repetition, measure performance and, with consent where required, personalize ads. See our advertising section for detail.
Cookies we and our partners may set
The table below is illustrative. The advertising cookies are set by Google, not by us, only when ads are enabled. Google controls their exact names and durations, which can change; Google maintains the authoritative list at business.safety.google/adscookies.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| un-careers-cookie-consent | UN Careers (your browser) | Remembers that you have seen and acknowledged our cookie notice (stored in local storage, not transmitted to us). | Until you clear it |
| __gads | Measures ad interactions and limits how often you see the same ad. | ~13 months | |
| __gpi | Used for ad personalization, frequency capping and reporting. | ~13 months | |
| IDE | Google (doubleclick.net) | Registers and reports your actions after viewing or clicking an ad, to measure ad effectiveness and serve targeted ads. | ~13 months |
| DSID | Google (doubleclick.net) | Associates your activity across devices if you are signed in to Google, for ad personalization. | ~2 weeks |
| NID / ANID | Stores your preferences and information for Google ads and services. | Up to ~6 months | |
| test_cookie | Google (doubleclick.net) | Checks whether your browser supports cookies. | ~15 minutes |
How to control cookies
- In our notice. Use the cookie notice shown on the site to accept or, where offered, decline non-essential cookies. Clearing your browser storage will make the notice appear again.
- In your browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
- For Google ads. Manage or turn off personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.
- Industry opt-outs. Opt out of many vendors at aboutads.info/choices or, in the EU, at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Global Privacy Control. Where required by law, we honour the GPC browser signal as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising.
Changes
We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of cookies or the law changes. We will revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
